Description
A bold, flavorful Italian Hero Sub Sandwich packed with sliced meats, provolone cheese, fresh vegetables, and classic condiments, all served on a soft hoagie bun.
Ingredients
3 deli hoagie buns
6 oz. thin-sliced Italian meats: Salami, Capocollo, Calabrese
6 slices Provolone cheese
Spinach or shredded lettuce
Tomato slices
Red onion rings
Pickles
Banana peppers
Black olives
Mayonnaise
Dijon mustard
Instructions
1. Slice the hoagie buns lengthwise without cutting through completely.
2. Layer spinach or lettuce on the bottom of each bun.
3. Add 2 slices of Provolone cheese per sandwich on top of the greens.
4. Fold and layer the salami, capocollo, and Calabrese over the cheese.
5. Top with tomato, onion, pickles, banana peppers, and olives.
6. If serving immediately, spread mayonnaise and Dijon mustard on the inside of each bun.
7. Cut each sandwich diagonally for presentation.
8. If preparing ahead, wrap tightly in cling wrap and refrigerate for up to 48 hours.
Notes
For a lighter version, use low-sodium deli meats and whole grain buns.
Skip condiments when preparing ahead to avoid soggy bread.
Great for lunchboxes, road trips, or game day.
