Description
This Hawaiian Roll French Toast Recipe uses sweet, fluffy rolls soaked in a vanilla-cinnamon custard and cooked until golden brown. Perfect for a cozy breakfast or family brunch.
Ingredients
1 (12 pack) of King’s sweet Hawaiian Rolls
3 large eggs
¾ cup half and half (or whole milk)
1 tablespoon vanilla extract
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
2 tablespoons brown sugar
Small pinch of salt
4 tablespoons butter (salted or unsalted)
Powdered sugar (for topping)
Fresh fruit (for topping)
Maple syrup (for topping)
Instructions
1. Crack the eggs into a large mixing bowl and whisk with the half and half until smooth.
2. Add vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, brown sugar, and salt. Whisk again to fully combine.
3. Use a toothpick or skewer to poke a few small holes in the bottom of each Hawaiian roll.
4. Soak a few rolls at a time in the egg mixture for about 30 seconds. Do not oversoak.
5. Heat a non-stick skillet over medium-low heat and melt about 2 tablespoons of butter.
6. Add soaked rolls to the skillet and cook each of the six sides for about 30 seconds or until golden brown.
7. Repeat with remaining rolls, adding more butter as needed between batches.
8. Serve immediately with powdered sugar, fresh fruit, and maple syrup.
Notes
Soaking the rolls too long may cause them to fall apart.
Use medium-low heat to prevent burning the outside while undercooking the inside.
You can prep the egg mixture a day in advance and store it in the refrigerator.
Reheat leftovers in the oven at 300°F for about 10 minutes to keep texture intact.
