These easy deep fried mushrooms are crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside, and perfect for dipping. A simple plant-based friendly recipe ideal for any appetizer table.
Ingredients
8 oz mushrooms, wiped clean, stems removed and halved or quartered
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
1 tsp black pepper
1/2 tsp salt
1 egg or vegan egg replacer
1 cup Italian seasoned breadcrumbs
Oil for frying
Vegan ranch dressing, for serving
Instructions
1. Wipe mushrooms clean with a damp paper towel and remove the tough end of the stems. Cut them in halves or quarters depending on size.
2. Heat oil in a large pan over medium-high heat.
3. Dredge mushrooms in flour, then dip into egg or replacer, and coat in breadcrumbs.
4. Working in batches, fry mushrooms until golden brown and crispy.
5. Remove with a slotted spoon and transfer to a paper towel-lined plate to drain.
6. Serve hot with vegan ranch dressing.
Notes
Do not rinse mushrooms under water. Use a damp paper towel to avoid excess moisture.
Use a slotted spoon or spider to handle the mushrooms while frying.
Season with additional herbs or spices if desired.
