Description
A cozy winter cranberry sauce made with fresh cranberries, orange juice, honey, warm spices, and bright citrus notes. This sauce becomes thick, glossy, and richly flavored as it simmers and cools. Perfectly balanced between tart and sweet with optional cherry juice for extra depth.
Ingredients
12 oz cranberries rinsed
1/2 cup water
1/2 cup orange juice
1/3 cup sugar
1/4 cup honey
1 teaspoon lemon juice
1 tablespoon cherry juice optional
A pinch of cinnamon
A pinch of nutmeg
Instructions
1. Add the rinsed cranberries to a medium saucepan.
2. Add water, orange juice, sugar, honey, lemon juice, optional cherry juice, cinnamon, and nutmeg then stir well.
3. Bring to a boil, reduce to a simmer, and cook until the cranberries burst and the mixture thickens.
4. Remove from heat and let the sauce cool completely until it continues to thicken.
5. Transfer to the refrigerator and chill for two hours or store in an airtight container for up to five days.
Notes
Cherry juice adds a deeper fruity tone and enhances the color.
Blueberries, zest, alcohol free vanilla flavor, raisins, pecans, apples, pears, or maple syrup make excellent additions.
Brown sugar can replace white sugar for a richer molasses note.
Leftovers taste great on biscuits, sandwiches, cottage cheese, or sliders made with alcohol free bread options like Arnold, Pepperidge Farm, or Nature’s Own.
